Each of the community and student actors that participated in the Jewish Cultural Arts Theatre season at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in North Miami Beach were honored with awards on June 4 in a ceremony at Temple Sinai of North Dade.
The gala event was titled “The Tenth Anniversary JCATemy Awards” in honor of the 10 years that JCAT has operated both community and youth (student) productions under artistic director
Modeled after the Academy Awards ceremony for films, the gala event featured a fund raising dinner with more than 50 items sold in a silent auction for JCAT with a “red carpet” welcome for all the guests and honorees.
The ceremony also featured the singing of the national anthems of Israel and the United States sung by the youth actors, different masters of ceremonies for each of the award winners, and an entertaining musical satire by the JCAT community and youth actors on the four JCAT productions offered the past season.
“Tonight’s celebration is to recognize the incredible teamwork of the community and youth actors, parents, volunteers and box office staff to create the magic of theater by all of us working together,” said Andron in addressing the 200 people at the ceremony.
